Looking to sound like you know what's going on in the world social strategy, comedy and other funny stuff? Well join the club and settle in for the Jeff Dwoskin show. It's not the podcast we deserve. But the podcast we all need with your host, Jeff Dwoskin.

Jeff Dwoskin 0:15

Hey, Jimmy, thank you for that great introduction. This is Jeff Dwoskin. And welcome back to the Jeff Dwoskin. Show. This is Episode Three. They can't stop us now. Alright, we got a lot of great topics we're gonna cover today. One is Facebook experts. You all know him, you love him. Those are the people on your Facebook feed that just know everything stopped. The press is called the president called the press called the medical community because some guy I went to high school with who was doing nothing with his life now has all the solutions. So we're excited, we're going to try and get to that by the end of the show. We do have a sponsor today, triple A batteries, triple A batteries, the battery you only know you need when your remote control goes out triple A battery. We gotcha. All right. So I don't know about you. But my mother in law can tell the difference between the triple A battery and a double A battery. And that's the reason we don't talk to this day. But that's a story for another time. All right, one of the things I want to talk to you about is getting comfortable with Twitter. If you're not on Twitter, it's time to get on. It's a great source. That's where all great news and information originates. So he got to be on Twitter, plus, we talked about hashtags all the time on the show, I want you to be able to get involved and have fun with that. So step one, get a Twitter account. It's easy. It's free. Step two follow at Jeff Dwoskin, show follow at hashtag Roundup, those are the sites I talk about often on the show. So one of the things once you do that, it's you're going to be kind of flooded with information. So step one, and this is all going to go into in this podcast will give other tips Other times, but explore the list feature. So in your set in your profile section, there's an area called lists. And you can just go to the list section, create a list, give it a name, say news. And then you can set a private If only you want to see your list. But what a list is, is basically a customized feed. So then you go to all the different news sites. So you like MSNBC, CNN, Fox, whatever your dish is. And on their profile page, there's little dots in the upper corner, and you just click on it, and it will say add to list. And then you can add them to the list. If it's private, they won't know if it's public, they will know but there's nothing wrong with that. And then when you click on that list, all you'll see are tweets from that account or tweets at that account shared. So it's a great way to kind of dip in that and hashtag Roundup. Alright, without further ado, a lot of you know I've been doing comedy for forever and I've had a fortune to work with some great people. And one of those people we're going to talk to in just a moment His name's Bob fell It was very funny guy, talk to him about his new album and just sort of the craziness of comedy in this COVID pandemic world. Without further ado, Alright, so we're talking with Bob Phillips. How are you Bob? All right. How are you? I'm doing great. Bob and I have done comedy together throughout the years Bob is also the CEO of film service industry they do solutions for what land space see you're basically like Tony Stark that's how I kind of picture you is Tony Stark you're building all this out Yeah,

Bob Phillips 4:05

I've been called that without the good looks though.

Jeff Dwoskin 4:07

Tony Stark without the good luck sets Have you ever walked away slowly from an explosion? I feel like you've been Afghan you've thrown your arms up and died and had stuff gone and then escaped.

Bob Phillips 4:22

No, I have not walked slowly I have run like a girl from an explosion.

Jeff Dwoskin 4:29

We've run like a girl from

Bob Phillips 4:32

certain test sites. Sure. Yeah, I run

Jeff Dwoskin 4:36

so so your that's your day job. And then your your passion comedy doing you do comedy all over the country all over the world. And you're awesome. We've worked together many times.

Bob Phillips 4:49

Thank you.

Jeff Dwoskin 4:50

So so what what are comedians doing now, with this whole COVID and pandemic. All the clubs are closed. What are comedians doing these days.

Bob Phillips 5:01

Well, I, you know, for the for the last couple of months, I've seen this big push, and I've been a part of some of them. The Zoom comedy show, you know, zoom is really the the way that people have gotten together for business, right? because nobody's going into the office. And they're having these, you know, Brady Bunch zoom meetings where they've got six 810, maybe 20 people on screen at the same time? Well, comics have done that same thing, because we have this need to perform and to get our jokes and out there and, you know, and then to fulfill this sick need to be liked by strangers. And zoom is one of the ways that comedians are doing it. I, you know, with varied results, I think I you know, everybody has done a zoom comedy show, I won't do another. They're horrid. Are you done one? I have, and I won't do it again. It's just it's, you know, it's like, it's like, hey, let's do dentistry underwater. None of it makes any sense. You know, it just doesn't work that way. comedy is a communal thing. It has to be in the dark, witnessed by several hundred people. Everybody packed in close together with a good buzz on. And that's how stand up comedy works. This zoom thing to me is just, it's like, I you know, it's just it's it's a whole fish out of water thing. It doesn't work.

Jeff Dwoskin 6:34

Even with the music ones that they're doing on the show. They're the only way they work is when they're overproduced or yet, they want you to make you think it's live. Yeah. And they they spent Lady Gaga as people spent 100 million dollars to make sure she sounds amazing. Just sitting at her piano randomly. Yeah, right. Here we are. The comedians is supposed to, like be right off perfect. Just without an audience and without people reacting to us. And just yeah, just make it work.

Bob Phillips 7:02

It's completely unnatural. It just doesn't work at all. It's Um, I think I mean, we had wasn't didn't didn't j load Wasn't she part of one where she actually lipsync on the on this zoom?

Jeff Dwoskin 7:15

I have no,

Bob Phillips 7:17

I don't know. But see that, you know, I don't know. That's a whole different level of entertainment. A level of stardom that I only aspire to. So

Jeff Dwoskin 7:26

Well speaking of aspiring so you have you have a new album out? I do you just what is that? Like your third album or something? third album, this one's called $10 gift card. Yes. Yes, sir. And you're on XM. You can hear Bob my neck Sam all the time. Yeah, awesome. I never could could pull myself together to release an album. I never liked anything I ever did enough.

Bob Phillips 7:51

When I don't like anything I ever did, either. But I still put it out.

Jeff Dwoskin 7:56

That's the difference between you and I. This is the only thing I'm putting out this podcast. Now. This is my big foray into promoting myself. But what are you doing? What's the plan here? How long when did it come out? Exactly.

Bob Phillips 8:11

It came out in January and then It reached number four on iTunes. I was very happy about that. I beat out Gabriel Iglesias and who

Jeff Dwoskin 8:21

hasn't? Who hasn't?

Bob Phillips 8:23

Yeah, right. I mean, you know, it was that moment in time, but I have nothing against Gabriel glazes. He's just a big name. And it was nice to be at four when he was at five. Right? And Jim gaffigan had the other you know, the top one, two and three spots. And six and eight.

Jeff Dwoskin 8:43

Jim gaffigan by

Bob Phillips 8:44

now you can. So what's the plan there? I don't know. I mean, you know, the money from XM is good. I you know, I'd like to put out an album every three or four years. But this next one is going to be much sooner than that because I literally can't stand the last album I put out I hate everything about it.

Jeff Dwoskin 9:06

But I hate so. Thanks for doing your promotional tour my podcast when you hate your album please don't buy my album. Everybody Thank you. Thank you

Bob Phillips 9:18

We use it's like you said you don't want to put out because you hate it you know you hate everything you hear I do too. We all we're all like that. And I don't just hate what I hear I hate what I see even worse and I and I'm tasked now by the record label with coming out with three to five promotional videos for certain bits from the album. And for me to sit in front you know with an editor edit an editing screen and watch myself is just torture. It's it's the absolute worst thing I can think of and, and I've got to do this and I've got one done. We put it out last week. It was the governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Jeff Dwoskin 9:56

Governor Whitmer sigh good timing. She's helped The news right now so yeah, and it's got a good views good reviews. I

Bob Phillips 10:03

don't know but I mean I hate it. It's

Jeff Dwoskin 10:06

I think too hard on yourself Bob, I think all your stuffs great. I still want everyone to check it out. Don't listen to Bob. Bob doesn't know anything about Bob. Bob's the worst judge Bob I've ever heard. So I want everyone to go out and get Bob's album this visit. That's the message here. positivity.

Bob Phillips 10:28

Positivity? Well, you know what I mean? I liked it at the time I that's that's what's gonna be the name of that album. I it was a good idea at the time. We're all like that you're like that every everybody we know in the business is like that. We know we're funny. But then in retrospect, we go back and listen, we go, Oh, I missed that punch. I should have let that joke breathe a little more. It just drives us crazy.

Jeff Dwoskin 10:53

Well, do you have a joke you want to do? And you didn't? You did not

Bob Phillips 10:59

know that you I want to I want to I want to do a joke. I want to do a clean joke. This is not my

Jeff Dwoskin 11:05

job. This is a street joke. Okay, do a street joke. This is true.

Bob Phillips 11:09

I love this joke, because my daughter told me this when she was 10. And we will tell this joke to each other every now and again in its entirety, pretending that neither of us have heard it before. And to me it's just it's just a silly, cute joking tell to anybody. And I don't know who wrote it. But it goes like this. So this this grasshopper hops into this bar, and he hops up on top of the bar. He says a bartender. I'd like a whiskey and water. And the bartender is very surprised. He says the grasshopper he says, Oh, I would have thought you'd ordered the drink named after you. The grasshopper says you have a drink named Carl.

Jeff Dwoskin 11:48

That's one of my favorite jokes. That is one of my favorites. But then down there is internet. Hi, no. All right. So where can they get the album?

Bob Phillips 11:56

Okay, then get the album on iTunes on Amazon, having listened to it free on Spotify and YouTube. You didn't have

Jeff Dwoskin 12:04

to buy it. You can go to my house. I'll play for you. And then you you have your own podcast. We do podcasts and Sal and Bob shows on it last week. Thank you. Yeah, that's right. Yeah.

Bob Phillips 12:13

By the way, Jeff, what you were a great guest. Very funny. very entertaining, as

Jeff Dwoskin 12:17

usual. Thank you. Thank you. And that's at sale and Bob show. Yes. All right. So everyone, check that out, check out Bob's album $10 gift card. Thank you, Bob, for joining me.

Bob Phillips 12:26

Thank you, Jeff. Good luck with your podcast.

Jeff Dwoskin 12:28

Thanks. And that's a wrap on this one. All right, that was Bob Phillips, check out his album. And now let's head over to the world of hashtag roundup and hashtag. So musical hashtags recently, did a hashtag hashtags song said describe 2020. So that's a that's a good one. So here's a few. And again, I'll post these on at Jeff Dwoskin show I'll retweet them. because it'd be easier for you to find these people and retweet them and follow them. But here we go. Andrew, you can't always get what you want. I think we're speaking directly to those people who just are suddenly obsessed with haircuts and getting their nails done. Here's another one. Can't touch this. Yeah, that's, that's perfect right now. Don't touch anything. And if you do wash your hands for 20 to 30 seconds use warm water and soap. That's MC Hammer knows where it's at. I have the tiger by shit and Sherry was suggesting that that's a great one. And if you haven't watched Tiger King, have you really even been in quarantine? If you haven't become close with Joe exotic i think i think not. Tara, every day is exactly the same by Nine Inch Nails. Yeah, pretty much could have also gone with Groundhog's Day there. Here's another good one all by myself. Shout out to all those in quarantine without someone else. Stay strong brothers and sisters stay strong. Of course the police don't stand. Don't stand so close to me. Yeah. That's never been more true. Don't stand that's in six feet away from me. Yeah, yeah. All right. That was those are some good ones. So it's funny. Check those out. And I think that's it. I think that's a wrap on episode three. So exciting. Thanks again for joining us. Hope you enjoyed the interview. And we'll see you next time on the Jeff Dwoskin show.
