But you're in luck, because we have three segments from three of those live shows ready to beam into your ears right now. From Live episode 118 waco American Apocalypse from Live episode 97 It isn't Christmas without sale holiday rush and from Live episode 60 After party with Howard Rosner. Oh, gee host. That's all coming up in this amazing episode. Let's kick things off with Waco. American apocalypse. Take it away, Ron Lippitt. Okay, let's kick off with Waco.

Ron Lippitt 1:33

So Apocalipsis Texas, I know that is so the wrong graphic, Jeff. But that's alright. You know, actually, no, not at all. But that's but that's alright, actually that that kind of segues perfectly perfectly into my discussion, which is this is one of the top trending documentaries on Netflix. Right. And in fact, I think at one point it was number one. And what's interesting is if you type in Waco documentary, your Google will blow because there's, there's like a dozen different documentaries and the whole week of siege, which was a fascinating moment back back in the day, I just thought so it makes it all the more interesting that Netflix bought this American documentary series, which is a three part miniseries that, you know, make it makes it interesting that they thought there was still original content here that would be you know, valuable and interesting to their, to their, to their parents. So there's subscribers so so first off, this is directed by a guy named Tiller Russell, who as far as I can tell, I did my research. I can't find anything that this person has ever directed before. So I don't know where they found this guy. What I also liked about this particular documentary is that there's no dramatic reenactment. This was just straight, legit documentary, where they intersperse you know, overlaid narration to actual footage. And that's one of the things that's really cool about the enough that there's something cool about people dying. But one of the interesting things I'll just say about waco is that they've got so much original footage from the siege. I mean, this thing went on for more than a month. And people don't realize that that this was an extensive, absolutely unprecedented 51 Day standoff between the Branch Davidians and the FBI and ATF, I think what Netflix saw that made this so interesting wasn't so much that all these people died and and it's another cult, you know, drama. People love hearing about cults. And I think that's anytime. I mean, for me, I'm fascinated about anything with Mormons, or anything to do with sex cults, and you know, any of those things I'm sold on but this was not that this was more of a kind of a modern Christian type of organization that were trying to kind of live on their own in the in the in West Texas. And so but here's what's interesting is this documentary spends a lot of time discussing the inadequacies, inadequacies of communication between the federal government and it's agencies. And what it comes down to is that the ATF, which originally had gone in there, to remove what they estimated to be a million rounds of ammunition that this guy and his cohorts had stored there, they had guns legal and otherwise, they had massive amounts of detonation type materials, bombs and, and whatnot. They met rocket propelled grenades. They had sniper weapons, they had 50 caliber, you know, heavy machine guns that could penetrate armor. This was they were ready for a war of these guys. And all they wanted not to put any defense of the Branch Davidians they just want to be left alone. But you can't do that when you don't pay your taxes. And so if you don't pay your taxes, the government gets a little snippy. And if it also happens, that you don't pay your taxes, and you have a million rounds of ammunition that are illegal, someone's going to come knocking and that's really what it came down to. So ATF came knocking. These guys were ready. They were tipped off completely accidentally somebody who shouldn't have been where they Should Have Been was a branch evident that heard about the ATF coming was able to wire or call David Koresh in the branch evidence. And sure enough, they were completely ready for the ATF and multiple ATF federal agents died in the original intent to disarm the branch. Davidians then begins the rest of the story, which is a series of blunders between the ATF and the FBI and the federal government all the way up to you know, the White House making mistake after mistake after mistake of communication about who was in charge about who is authorized to do what with what means. It just became a series of federal blunders. All the while David Koresh was frankly negotiating in good faith to surrender to the federal agents I listen again, I'm no David Koresh apologist, the mannerism flat out maniac, but this did not have to end the way it did. And I think that's what this thing examines. The main reason why it ended the way it did is because David Koresh and his people no longer believed anything the government said. And with good reason the government lied over and over things that they had promised didn't come true things that they hadn't promised happened. Like as an example, for no reason whatsoever. While the ATF was in the midst of negotiation, the FBI brought out a tank and basically just rolled over David Carr, David crushes cars, like his fancy, collectible cars, why they do that just to piss him off. But with him, it was in the midst of a direct negotiation with ATF. So it's like, it just the documentary is very, what's the right word? It's very critical. I'll just say that of the federal a federal agencies now, is that the intent to have you watch this three part series and cowboys saying, Wow, this government's really screwed up? Maybe Maybe it is, I don't know. But it is fascinating to watch the the discussions that happen. Here's another interesting little nugget. Did you know that David Koresh was shot in the original siege of Waco and went the whole 51 days with a bullet in his abdomen with infection and whatnot, and was still able to kind of hold his grip together while this all went down? So you know, listen, I don't know if you guys are into these kinds of documentaries are kind of learning about things that it might from my standpoint, things that could have been avoided, particularly governmental things that could have been avoided. This might be your your type of documentary, it was it's very well done. It's quick, it's straight to the point. It's not a bullshit kind of documentary it, it. There's nothing to argue with because it pulls straight from the actual communications from the with the Branch Davidians in the in the government, and you're left to kind of make your own decision about what could have been done better. And you know, how this whole thing could have been avoided. Richard Roeper from Chicago some times, I think, said that about this documentary, I think he said it really well. It's impossible to satisfy everyone and nailed down every single essential truth. But it does a great job of giving a voice to the story from a myriad of sides, which is interesting. I remember waco very, very well. Do you guys remember you guys remember going down?

Jeff Dwoskin 8:16

I'm not sure I do. But I don't remember David crash.

Marci Stifter 8:21

I know the story. You have seen the other show?

Ron Lippitt 8:24

Yeah. David crash. That's right. And it was in 1993. So I don't know where you guys were in 1993. Me, I was an idiot out of college. So. But I remember paying attention. That's because I remember thinking, wow, that's a lot of federal agents that just got shot. There's one particular widely seen viral video of an ATF agent on the roof. And all you see are just bullets just flying into the building, like making holes right above his head, like three or four in a row. And you see him kind of like scurrying down the roof. But otherwise, he's about to get shot. Super interesting documentary, I highly recommend it easy. Watch three parts. So check it out. I think you guys will enjoy it.

Marci Stifter 9:01

It's an interesting story. I mean, it's heartbreaking. But it was very interesting.

Ron Lippitt 9:06

It is a lot of kids died last night side. And did they

Marci Stifter 9:09

have the footage of the parents who are who had kids like, you know, family in there that they were like, don't hurt them or, you know, get out of there.

Ron Lippitt 9:17

They did. And they also here's another another little blunder that it was bad enough that the people who voluntarily walked out of the Branch Davidian compound were severely arrested, even though they were promised that that they wouldn't be arrested. That's bad enough, but what's really bad is that they arrested these people like out in public and on TV so that people in the Branch Davidian compound were able to watch people who were promised. exoneration get arrested. So now it's like, you know, it's like, no, nobody believes anything that the government says and it's terrible and a lot of them went to jail before even the the siege app and they gave themselves up and they still were arrested. It's not a good Look for the government. I'm just gonna say that it's just really listen. I mean, we can't be great at a lot of things and maybe we're not very good at very many things. I don't know. But was it

Marci Stifter 10:08

one of those things that happened on 420? Was it was it was it April 20? Was that the date that the siege? I mean, I feel like that was was that not a day? For some reason? I feel like it was a 420 thing there's I

Ron Lippitt 10:19

don't know the actual counting question. I can go check it out and because there's there's multiple dates right, there's a date of the original siege. Yeah, all the federal agents got killed. And then there's the date of when you see the video of the whole thing burning down and, and basically them

Jeff Dwoskin 10:35

don't give away all the spoilers. Right. So great, so I will check that out. We'll check out please check out Waco. American Apocalypse American not the one I put up

Ron Lippitt 10:47

not the one you put up American Apocalypse

Jeff Dwoskin 10:53

All right, Ryan Lippitt. Bringing the heat with yet another amazing documentary check out waco American Apocalypse Next it's time for sale to save Christmas once again with his review of holiday rush take it away sale, holiday rush and let's so Sal every year does all these Christmas movies and rom coms but mostly rom coms. But now it's always Christmas Christmas themed rom com. So it's everyone's favorite time of the year.

Sal Demilio 11:24

Yes. And this is no exception. It's a rom com movie came out in 2019 on Netflix, but you know what, before I get into it, I don't want to tell about those. So we know how these movies are. So I'm gonna try to be less boring on the details. But the reason I like this movie is it's not all about romance the whole way through. And I really liked that about it still had a little bit in there. But it wasn't all about that. And that was pretty good. It has a lot to do with this movie has a lot to do with revenge and never given up. This movie also has a lot to do with maybe how to raise your son. There's a lot of moments in there, where there's a single father raising his son because his mother dies of cancer that you don't even see. Anyway, there's a lot of Father Son interaction in here that people would we'd like and enjoy. And there's romance at the end of the movie, which I thought was a pretty good way to do this movie. It's not all about the romance all the time. So anyway, wanted to point that out. Basically, it's about a main actor in this I want to get his name right Romney Melco kind of reminds me of like a Michael Epps I think that's the comedian Michael It looks just like like lips anyway, he's the lead and he is a hotshot disc jockey in in New York City. He's got a top rated radio show. Life is good lives in a big house has twin daughters has a son that's about to get accepted to Harvard has another older daughter as a mother in law that lives in a big house and things are good guy makes a lot of money local radio bla bla bla, well, the radio station the management gets fired or they sell out and he is basically told to get out. So this this big time radio DJ loses his job, his program director kind of like a Robin quivers type person, obviously, he's getting fired as well. He decides to move his whole family into his original house of when he was struggling years ago. And obviously, the son hates it. And it's a lot of family squabbles on that they're living kind of poor now because they he lost his job, he has no hardly any money, he spends a lot of money. So he's got nothing to fall back on. And except his program director that believes in him, and they want to go after. So that radio CCDF fire they went another route and a different format, and he wants to try to compete with them. So they they buy this old radio station, the radio station that he started that years ago, they buy that and try to get that off the ground. So that's kind of one story in the movie. The other story is what I told you, he has his relationship with his son who's trying to get accepted to Harvard and so there's a lot of family stuff in it. That's obviously it's a family romcom movie and the characters in it are very, very good. I thought it kind of moved a little slow towards about three quarters in just have a lot of things in there. Like you know, like putting up the Christmas tree I thought there was just way too long and the movie things of that nature that I thought they could have sped up a little bit but there was some good moments. I didn't think there was a lot of jokes in it. They tried to put a lot of jokes in it but the jokes weren't really that great. There were some pretty funny scenes and some funny moments but all in all I don't think it was written very well as far as comedy goes but it was written very well in the form of of him trying to get this radio station go and he obviously has has a relationship or develops a relationship with that program director that I was telling you about. She did a really good job to her name is a sick one green. She does a very, very good job in this the character the cast is very well. I tell I don't know if you think I was telling everybody off air. If you saw this Old Spice commercial. It was really really Popular Dean Cole is the guy so if they ever saw him in, but he he's, he plays the program director for the original radio station he stays on with the new radio station. And him and this guy named rush kind of have a battle like because they're they're against each other now as he started his own radio station, so there's a little there's a lot of seeds with them too in it that are very funny. They tackle each other in the snow on this one scene. It's very funny, and but anyway, he comes back at the end to help him run his radio station. I'm not gonna ruin it for the end, but the end is right on Christmas. So there's a lot of Christmas stuff in this movie. Obviously, it's built around Christmas, it only takes place in like 15 days, the guy gets fired, like right before Christmas, December 7, or eighth or whatever. So obviously that's why Christmas is involved. You know, all in all, it was it was a really good rough couple. Like I said, I watch these all through December. And

Speaker 1 15:55

I love Yeah, and I love that you watch these. And

Sal Demilio 15:59

like I said at the beginning, I liked this one because it wasn't all about the romance the whole time. 24/7 it had little stories inside of this rom com movie, which I thought was very very well done. They couldn't had more jokes in it maybe a little bit of more funny in it. But all in all, I thought it was a really good movie. I'll give it I'll give it I can't do have because you don't have ads, but I'm gonna get it for tomato sauce. I highly recommend it very well. I have a quick question. I feel like the cast had a very good time making this movie too. There. There's good symmetry and a good chemistry. And I think they had a ball film in this

Jeff Dwoskin 16:44

all right, check out holiday rush put you in the holiday mood. Our final show our final segment if you will, or this bonus episode comes to us from a live episode 60 Howard Rosner rise bringing us after party take it away Rhys? Well, let's let's get it out of the way then after party. This is not yeah after party, but this is a different job.

Howard Rosner 17:11

So after party is a brand new show on Apple TV plus, for those of you like me that spend the money for head lasso and other shows. It's just like last other reads the first three episodes of the first season and then it'll be one episode a week. It is created by the same creative team that did the Jump Street movies, which I love both of those movies. I think they're both great. And it has a lot of the same humor cast is great. It is Sam Richardson, who we absolutely love. From Detroiters who was Richard splat on Veep. He's fantastic. A lot of Glazer from Broad City, Dave Franco, who I love who's in the, you know, in the first 21 Jump Street, it's got Tiffany Haddish, who, generally speaking, I don't like anything she does. I just,

Unknown Speaker 18:03

I love her.

Howard Rosner 18:05

I think she's, she's great. In this. She's really getting this, Ben Schwartz, John Raphael from Parks and Rec amongst other things. So you know, it's that comic geniuses in my mind that are that are already in the cast. So the gist of the show is, it is the 15 high school reunion for all of these people. And after the high school reunion that go to Dave Franco's home, he's a become a pop star and Xavier and somewhere along the line. In the course of the after party at his house, he falls to his death. And essentially all of these characters become potential suspects. Tiffany Haddish is the lead detective on the case. And she begins interviewing them. And so the show splices some current time with looking back each episode is essentially the interview the look back at the whole evening of what are the characters wanted the main character each of the episode is the episodes are filmed in the general tone, and character feel of the character that the episode is you know, looking back in so first episode is Shan Richardson's character. The second episode is a guy who's really aggro tough macho guy. So it's almost like an episode and looking back is almost like an action movie that it's got that tone. And then the third episode is Ben Schwartz, who's a wannabe musician. So it's almost like a musical. And it's hysterical. I really love it. I'm so looking forward to where it goes. It's really quick wit but interesting. And again, you've got really subtle comic people, not big, huge grand counting people. So it's really dialogue comedy. putt, it's really really funny and a very much looking forward to seeing the rest of the season. Curious to see if they'll be able to do more than one season if they do the same concept but you know a whole group of characters or if they're somehow able to extend it to a second season or if they just treat it as a one off one season limited series, but I mean, Sam Richardson is he is one of the most socially funny people working today like Richard splat on Veep. And his character on Detroiters were just so good. He

Jeff Dwoskin 20:35

was amazing on TED lasso. And yeah,

Howard Rosner 20:37

it is couple episodes on TED last. Oh, that's right. I forgot about that. He's, he's so funny. A lot of Glazer from Broad City. She's pretty much a drunk. In this case. She's dropped the entire entire reunion. Yes, so it's a Franco's great, I love him so much better, so much more than his brother. I think he's just just funnier and more interesting than James. But with the exception of this is the Admiral James Franco's playing a caricature of himself, but I really enjoy it I highly recommend this it's the after party on Apple TV plus, not the apple not the after party with Wiz Khalifa apparently putting

Jeff Dwoskin 21:16

in my does sound interesting. I'm a big fan of wizard I have a good picture of myself and him at the Daytona 500. But yeah, it's on Apple TV plus it's a really really close so in my defense, which is not an excuse, but just I'm saying this so that other people who are looking for this don't make the same mistake it's not the after party where after a party or two words it's after party is one word that's why after party that's why that came up and another show called that but it's I just looked at I I went to I end up I got to it through the backdoor. I went to Tiffany Haddish and then found it Yeah, though. It's after party one word. So that's why I didn't search the after party, saying but there. The other shows are the after party, but it's two words. Punctuation matters down. Let's eat grandma.

Howard Rosner 22:07

Yeah, you know, what's

Devon McVettie 22:08

ironic about this is that that Flix is actually putting out their own comedy Murder Mystery Show. And I believe it drops tomorrow called Murder Nerville Yeah, and it looks hilarious. Talking about that, this might be the new like, the new thing that everybody's gonna start working on is some type of comedy murder style TV show and or movie because you're starting to see a little bit more and more of this out there. Especially with they know that people love TV love murder documentaries,

Jeff Dwoskin 22:40

so they're gonna come out with more right like murders in the building all the murders in the bay. I

Devon McVettie 22:44

was growing up that show such

Howard Rosner 22:46

if you haven't seen the previews for murder Ville on Netflix, it's will our net place the lead detective in each episode, and in each episode, he has a different celebrity playing the guest detective, but the celebrity has no idea what the plot is. And Will Arnett basically use them? And the whole thing is, their whole role is the improv. So it's Sharon Stone, Ken Jiang Marshawn. Lynch of all people. It's one of the episodes so I Yeah, it looks great. I were just talking about that into that. A little device reminds me of you remember a police squad in the 80s You know, this horse and then the the guest star got killed within the first 60 seconds? Yes. And whoever it was, yeah, boom.

Jeff Dwoskin 23:45

All right, great to hear from Rosner, that was afterparty from Live episode 60 We had holiday rush from Live episode 97 and from Live episode 118, Waco, American apocalypse, got a lot of homework in front of you.
